“Dad, you’re our White Angel”

I believe my Dad has the coolest job in town. Why? Because he is a Male Nurse!

He has been in this profession for 43 good years, and I feel that the steadfastness he has shown in his chosen career path sets a good example to the younger generation, especially when job hopping is so common these days.

My Dad is now 61 years old and he could have retired last year but chose to work for another 2 years at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as he feels that he is still able to work and positively contribute to society.

I remember being so worried for my Dad a couple of years ago when there was the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in Singapore, as he was in the frontline to handle possible SARS infected patients.

I prayed fervently for his safety and I truly thank God that he managed to stay safe and healthy. Thinking about it now, it was quite stressful for our family at times, as even a doctor got infected with SARS and passed away.

Since the SARS outbreak, I really admire his passion for nursing and courage to care for patients with all kinds of different illness. In short, he is truly our hero and the loving 'White Angel' in my family.

As I’m now married, I intend to celebrate this Father's Day by throwing a party for both my Dad and my Father-In-Law in my own home.
