Master the Way You Use Your Voice

Breathing
Breath is life. Yet not many people breathe correctly. The secret to good voice production lies in using your breath to support your voice. If you don’t have enough breath to support your voice, it will sound weak, or you will simply run out of breath.

Most people breathe only in the chest area, rather than in the abdomen. Learning to breathe deep and right takes concentration and exercise.

Working it out
Start by varying your pitch. Take a simple sentence and say it several times, emphasising a different word each time:

“I have a great idea!”
“I have a great idea!”
“I have a great idea!”

Notice how much more interesting and convincing this sounds, compared to saying it in a monotonous tone.

Now, vary the length of a few words for emphasis: “She is soooo irritatiiing!

There are many more great vocal exercises that can be practised, while in the shower or when driving, that can help in articulation, resonation and projection.

Bad habits, tension, doubts and fear – they all hinder voice production when you have to make a presentation.

Proper voice projection, voice maintenance, lifestyle choices, visualisation and play can help release your hidden voice. To achieve good voice production and success, do pay more attention to these areas.
