Jasmine, what is it about bowling that you enjoy and are passionate about?
My first experience with bowling came about when I saw my brother playing it when I was young. I saw him representing and winning for Singapore, and he encouraged and inspired me to do the same.
Bowling gives me the opportunity to travel as well as to meet people from all over the world. To be able to represent and win for Singapore is a strong motivating factor that keeps me going.
How would you describe the experience about being Singapore’s Sportswoman of the Year 2009?
It is definitely an honor to get this award and I must thank SingaporeBowling for giving me the opportunity. This award doesn’t just belong to me but also to all the people that have inspired, encouraged and helped me as how I am today. They include my family, all my coaches, staff of SingaporeBowling and all my friends. This award shows that all our hard work has been recognized. Having been crowned the Sportswoman of the Year 2009, it has spurred me to improve more in my game and help others too. It is definitely the best form of recognition and reward for our hard work.
How do you manage to successfully balance your studies and bowling schedules?
I believe time management is important to allow me to excel in both bowling and studies and balance both priorities.
I am fortunate to have supportive lecturers and classmates, which have helped me cope better. To be honest it is not easy to balance both schedules. However, at the end of the day, it is worth the hard work and sacrifice.
What are you studying and do you enjoy the courses?
“I believe time management is important”
– Jasmine
I am currently pursuing a Business Degree at Nanyang Technological University. I have enjoyed my Media and Communications studies previously in Singapore Polytechnic and the course also gave me the insight on the business modules. My interest grew from there, and to pursue higher studies in Business has been one thing I've wanted to do since then.
What do you like to do for relaxation and to de-stress?
I like to go somewhere quiet and calm to relax, like a quiet café and enjoy a nice movie, not forgetting spending time with my loved ones.
What are your future career goals, and also goals for bowling?
As I just have started my class at NTU, I am in the midst of balancing my class and bowling schedules. To continue to represent and win more medals for Singapore is definitely in my current plan and I will continue to work towards it. As for future career plans, I am keeping my options open at the moment.
